OVERVIEW

Overview of International Relations at the University of Indonesia 

In today's rapidly changing and interconnected world, studying International Relations (IR) is becoming increasingly important in various fields, including the government, business, and civil society sectors. For a developing country like Indonesia, understanding the interconnections between local, national, regional, and global dynamics is important to ensure that development strategies in various fields effectively realize Indonesia's national interests. 

Established in 1985, Undergraduate Program of International Relations at Universitas Indonesia is now one of the best and most sought-after study programs in Indonesia. The curriculum curated by International Relations at the University of Indonesia combines academic approaches that are multidimensional (Political, Economic, and Socio-Cultural), multi-level (Global, Regional, National, Provincial, and Local), and still prioritize national interests according to the Indonesian constitution in understanding international phenomena. Departing from this combination, as well as a policy-oriented teaching approach,the learning methods presented by International Relations at the University of Indonesia are directed to bridge theory and application in cross-sector policies taken by International Relations practitioners and real global actors. 

Undergraduate Program of International Relations at the University of Indonesia is held for 8 (eight) semesters with a credit weight of 144 credits. There are three concentrations of specialization studiy that can be combined independently in semester III, namely International Security, International Political Economy, and Transnationalism Studies.

To become a center of excellence for the organizing of education and teaching in the field of International Relations at the Undergraduate Program level, possessing academic and social relevance to the wider community at the national level, as well competitiveness at the international level, and becoming the excellence in Southeast Asia.

To advance the quantity and quality of research and scholarly publications related to Indonesia's Foreign Policy, ASEAN, and the Asia-Pacific region.

To broaden and deepen our community service initiatives within International Relations, involving all relevant stakeholders in meaningful ways.

To cultivate a robust and credible academic institution that supports the advancement of the International Relations academic community.

The Achievement of Gaduates Learning (CPL) Study Progam

The expected profile of Undergraduates Program of International Relations Study Program (HI) who is capable:

  • To analyze various global phenomena using an IR perspective that considers multi-dimensional (3D: political, economic, and social) and multi-level (5G: global, regional, national, local, and individual) aspects and prioritizes national interests in accordance with the Indonesian constitution;
  • Applying for IR science in various fields of life; and,
  • Having high academic ethics, social care, professional work ethic, and leadership spirit.
Prospects for International Relations Graduates

Graduates of this program can work in a variety of IR-related jobs, such as:

  • Government sector: Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Trade, Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs, Local Government Foreign Cooperation Department, etc;
  • Research, non-governmental organizations, and international organizations: UN, UNHCR, USAID, and others;
  • Media & Publication
  • Business and other commercial sectors

    Graduates already employed can advance their career path to a higher level. Some professions that are suitable for this program are:

    Language 

    Undergraduate Program of International Relations at University of Indonesia using Indonesian and English in lectures, although most courses are only available in Indonesian. Undergrade Program of International Relations Studies at the University of Indonesia will support international students who are interested in studying on-site with language adjustments and recommends learning Indonesian through the Indonesian language program for non-native speakers (BIPA) program available at this link (LBI BIPA Program).

    Admision Requrements

    Any domestic applicant/Indonesian citizen must meet the following requirements:

    • Have completed high school/MA/equivalent (S1) education in all fields of science;
    • Passed the Universitas Indonesia Entrance Selection Test, either from the National Selection Based on Achievement (SNBP), National Selection of New Student Admissions (SNPMB), or University of Indonesia Independent Entrance Exam (SIMAK UI)

    International applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

    • Undergraduate Title with relevant major;
    • Good skills in Indonesian demonstrated through the Test of Indonesian as a Foreign Language (TIBA)/Indonesian Proficiency Test with a score of at least 4 or Indonesian for Speakers of Other Languages (BIPA)/Indonesian language program for non-native speakers with a score of at least 3. 
    • Having Good English skills, indicated by TOEFL Internasional with a minimum score of 213 (CBT) or 80 (iBT); or IELTS (http://ielts.org) with a minimum score of 6 valid for two years from the test date. Suppose the applicant has received or will receive a degree from an institution where English is the main language of instruction. In that case, the applicant does not need to submit a TOEFL/IELTS certificate.

    Tuition Fee

    All Indonesian International Relations Bachelor’s students are required to pay tuition fee in accordance with the classes set by the University of Indonesia. Tuition fees are reviewed annually and may increase from year to year. The tuition fees paid each semester are in accordance with the year of lecture commencement.
