Depok, 27 November 2025, Department of International Relations, Faculty of social and Political Sciences, University of Indonesia welcomed the honorary visit New Zealand Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Phillip Taula, in building a FISIP UI.
The visit starts at 11.00 pm with a suave session with the leaders of FISIP UI and the HI Department. On the occasion, Ambassador Taula also toured various facilities and infrastructure of the faculty, including Maritime and Border Research Center (MBRC) which became one of the leading research centers in the FISIP UI environment.
Kuliah Umum: New Zealand’s Foreign Policy in the Indo-Pacific
After the introductory session, activities continued with public lectures which takes place in The FISIP UI communication Auditorium and attended by more than 40 students from various study programs at UI. In a lecture entitled “New Zealand’s Foreign Policy in the Indo-Pacific,” Ambassador Taula outlined the direction of New Zealand's foreign policy focusing on three strategic priorities: strengthen international relations, increase prosperity, and strengthen regional security.

He emphasized that Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, is a top priority in New Zealand Foreign Policy. The relationship between the two countries covers various areas of cooperation, such as food security, renewable energy, defense, trade, and education.
Scholarship and study opportunities in New Zealand
In addition to discussing foreign policy, Ambassador Taula also introduced various postgraduate education and scholarship opportunities in New Zealand. He highlighted that all universities in New Zealand are included in 2% of the world's best universities (QS World University Rankings 2025) serta menempati peringkat ke-4 dalam Global Peace Index 2024 as the safest country to study.
This presentation session received high enthusiasm from students who actively asked questions about the application process, research opportunities, and academic culture in New Zealand. The discussion is then guided by Prof. Evi Fitriani, Professor of International Relations of FISIP UI.
Activities closed at 13.30 PM with souvenir delivery by Head of HI Department, Dr. Broto Wardoyo, to Ambassador Phillip Taula as a symbol of appreciation and friendship between HI FISIP UI and the Embassy of New Zealand.
